The one you weren’t ready for…

Do you believe in soulmates? How about second-chances? My first novella—which honestly is not my best work, but it is what it is and it’s my baby and I’ve only grown in my writing since then, so that’s that—Hearts in Edinburgh is a second-chance romance novella and the one book that, for me opens up the ‘what-if’ conundrum.

When I had published this book back in 2018, I wasn’t sure what message—if any—I was trying to convey in the story. Instead, I let my readers get into it and waited to the feedback. It was only about two weeks later, that I picked up the book myself and gave it a read. With fresh eyes, I got through it in less than an hour and that was when it hit me: I don’t believe in soulmates.

What I do believe, is that for some of us, there is that one person who fills your bucket in a way no other person ever will. I also believe that for some of us, there is that one person who has already come into your life—be it last week, last year, ten years ago! But that we were not ready for them to fill our bucket. And sometimes, just sometimes, fate intervenes and we get that second chance—and we are ready for them to fill our bucket.

And there’s what Hearts in Edinburgh is: a love story of a candle lit, but the flame was not powerful enough until fate intervened years later.

Until next time,
