I visited Scotland early this year for my 40th birthday. I did a bit of touring around, and eventually ended in Edinburgh in a cozy little apartment with the view of Edinburgh Castle. And it got me think about my very first book baby, Hearts in Edinburgh…
I follow an editor who works closely with Reedsy and commented on one of her posts last year, telling her how much I was learning from her advice segments over on the Reedsy YT channel as well as her own Instagram profile. I mentioned to her that I can really see my growth as an author. I cringe when I pick up my very first book, Hearts in Edinburgh because it has so many mistakes: spelling, grammar, timeline, etc. I didn’t make use of an editor, instead I ‘proof-read’ it myself. I didn’t consider that first draft to be a first draft. Just such amateur mistakes, really. She replied to my comment that it’s important for us as indie authors to acknowledge our growth and see how far we’ve come.
And I really do. I accept that my first three novellas were my starting blocks for this ‘career’ that I have decided I am embracing. I also understand where I fell short and I certainly can see how I should have taken my time with them.
I have been thinking: if you have read Hearts in Edinburgh, would you want me to rewrite it and republish as an updated version? The story itself would not change but it would be a cleaned-up version of the book. Perhaps a tad bit longer and with more ‘depth’ and character development. Let me know in the comments below.

You can also get a copy of a fan-favourite RSVP Plus One over on Kindle right now and see why so many of my readers fell in love with Liam. Don’t forget to subscribe to my mailing list below, so you get notified when a new post goes lives.
