Book boyfriends, do you have one?

Can we talk book boyfriends? Because, let’s be honest, we all have that one tv show character who does things to us we’d rather not verbalise…especially if we are watching said show with our partners. (Did someone say Geralt?) 🙂

Ask anyone who has read my books, and nearly all of them will say that they want more of Liam from my novella RSVP Plus One. And if you haven’t met Liam yet, why not grab it now over on Kindle? Go on…you know you want to!

Growing up, I had mad love for any book by Stephen King. And as crazy and otherworldly as his books are, there were certainly some book characters who tickled my fancy as a teen. Nick Andros from The Stand definitely stood out for me. Not because Rob Lowe portrayed him in the 1994 mini-series. I grew up in a Christian home, and Nick had some of the same morals and values instilled in him. I related to him in that way in the book.

Also, in the 90’s, I fell madly in love with Todd Wilkins—if you know, you know. I must admit, though, that the Sweet Valley books that came out in the early 2000’s, were not my cup of tea. Especially because I was really rooting for him and Elizabeth to have their HEA.

Between the early 2000s and pre-Covid, I travelled, fell in love, travelled, and fell in love some more. Then got married and had a baby. Though I read all the time, it seemed to me that the books I had been reading didn’t really have much depth and no real character development. I guess I was at a point in my life where reading was merely a form of escapism and not really getting to know the characters.

But then the world changed, and my reading patterns changed. No longer was I reading romance novels, I dived into the psychological thriller genre. And man, oh man! That is a rabbit hole that’s difficult to climb out of. After nearly four years, I still can’t resist a good psychological thriller novel. I read them as well as listen to them on audible. And to date, I think I have found that one male character that just does it for me. To the point where I got a little more than upset when I had finished The Night Thief in three days in November 2021, and had to wait until October 2022 for Solace House to come out. Thanks, Joy Ellis!

Detective Inspector (DI) Rowan Jackman. Oh. My. Soul. He is totally it for me—as far as book boyfriends go, of course 🙂

Now, if you asked me to choose a book boyfriend from one of my own novels, I am going to have to go against the grain here and not choose Liam Dempsey (for more on that, click here). For me it’s going to be a toss-up between Henry Morgan from Red Carpets and Wellingtons, and Callum Stewart from Heartstone Lodge. I simply can’t pick one at this time. But, who knows, perhaps there is another coming real soon 🙂

So, what do you say:
Book Boyfriends. Yay or Nay?

And if yay, who is yours? And don’t worry, if it’s Edward Cullen, no one will judge you here 🙂

Now, I have to go and spend some time with Cillian Walsh.

Toodaloo,
Gretchen W.

(oops, did I just drop the name of a character in an upcoming book?)
