From Book to Movie

Random thought for today: not every book should be made into a movie. Seriously!

I mean, yes there are some really good (dare I say brilliant) adaptations. I just feel like some books are best left to the readers’ imagination. If that make a lick of sense. I have often felt rather disappointed when a character has been cast completely wrong because I had already imagined the person in my head.

Now, those who know me personally, know what a HUGE Stephen King fan I am. But even he would agree that there are a few of his books that should never have been adapted for the big (or small) screen.

Don’t get me started on the Hallmark movies. That will have to be a separate post all on its own.

If I were to give you my top 5 movie adaptations, I’m going to disappoint you because I can’t decide my top 5. I know ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ would be in that list, but I haven’t seen the movie in nearly 30 years. 1939 gave us ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and that was really as true to the book as they could get with technology back then. And of course, I can’t not talk about the OG, Stephen King. I mean you’ve got Shawshank Redemption; Pet Sematary (the most recent version, even though ***Spoiler Alert*** they took a few artistic liberties on one of the deaths); IT Part 1 & 2; Stand by Me…

I know I’ve left out Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit. I did this, because I never could read the actual books. They have been on my to-read list for years. So I can’t really compare.

Which movie adaptations would be in your top 5? Have you read the EPIC ones like the Lord of the Rings? How about the Narnia books or Harry Potter? Talk to me down in the comments below…
