I came across this post the other day and I literally snort-laughed. It was funny because in Red Carpets & Wellingtons, I started out with a story board, I had my main characters planned out to the tee! Henry was always going to have those jellyfish blue eyes, complimented nicely by his black curly hair. And Harriet started off with strawberry blond hair and never changed it. However, not all my characters end how they start.

Just last night, I was writing a chapter in Book 3 of my new book series, when I couldn’t remember what colour hair my male lead has. I had to go back to Book 1 to check, and then I had to make sure it was still the same in Book 2.

I know, people can change their style and hair colour. But unless you are a mutant, the colour of your eyes can’t drastically change. Luckily for me, MS Word allows me to ‘search’ and ‘change all’, if I do make a mistake.

What I have learned since writing Red Carpets, is that I definitely should have some sort of story board for all my works-in-progress. Something I can always go back to when describing my characters, etc.

Anyway, this was just a random thought, I’d share with you all today.

Say, if you could decide what my next lead character in any future book looked like, how would you describe them? Tell me in the comment section below. Who knows, maybe your character takes centre-stage in one of my next novels 🙂

TTFN,
Gretchen
