I don’t even know where to begin this post. I’ve said it before over on my Socials: this book is a labour of love. I put blood, sweat and tears into every chapter, every character of this book. I love constructive feedback – the good and the bad. Because that helps me grow in my art. I had many readers message me privately after they had read my previous novellas and almost all of the feedback given was: character development and ‘please give us more in terms of descriptive scenes to help our imaginations’.

And so, I used that feedback in a story that came to me in the shower one morning. I knew that to bring depth to the story and to really develop my characters, I would have to set a goal for a full-length novel. And that is how Red Carpets & Wellingtons was born.

By the time I had finished my first draft, I knew more about my main character’s job than I do my own dear husband’s job. I did an immense amount of research. Google was definitely my best friend during this time. I even created my own fictional town in England, just to expand my creativity.

The book title was something that I had been playing with since Chapter 1 was drafted. But as the story developed, I came up with another title that I really thought would work as well. It was only when I used my two good friends as sounding boards, that one of them mentioned copyright issues, and I realised that it might not work – as down the line I could potentially get into some legal issues. And so, I went back to my original book title of Red Carpets & Wellingtons. And I’m glad I did because when I made that public, the feedback was very good.

My characters are relatable on many levels – at least that’s what I think. And I will be writing up some posts about them soon, so come back for that. For now, I am just very excited for you all to read this novel. I think it’s one of my best stories so far (even though, I really am so partial to Hearts in Edinburgh, but that’s simply because it was my first and I am secretly in love with the character of Tom.)
